What is a Press Release?
A press release is a story about your business, product or event. It’s like an advertisement, but FREE. It’s great for creditability, exposure and promotion.
The press release is submitted to the media, so hopefully they will run your
story in their publication. You may even get a request for an interview.

10 tips to a Successful Press Release

1. Give Instructions!! Start it out with: "FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE" or “FOR RELEASE (Date)” and "For more information, contact (Your information)".

2. The Headline! It’s one of the most important parts of your press release. Use the KISS approach “Keep it Simple Stupid”. It’s used to grab the attention of the press and other readers.

3. Summarize! Use this opportunity to summarize by informing readers of: who, what, where, when and why. This is your chance to hook the readers or loose them. Hook them!!

4. AVOID!! Jargon and fancy language.

5. FACTS! Stick to them.

6. Benefits! Tell the readers the benefits. They want to know how to save time, money or make their lives easier.

7. FYI Make sure to tell the readers where to go for more information. This includes your mailing address, telephone, fax, e-mail and web site.

8. Proofread!! Need I say more?

9. THE ENDING!! By ending your Press Release with ### it tells the press this is the end of the release.

10. Distribute!! In order to be successful it should be submitted to the Press through a variety of sources.
